Svadhisthana Chakra - Pleasure, Sensuality and Creativity

Svadhisthana is derived from the Sanskrit root "sva", which means "that which belongs to you" and is commonly translated as "one's dwelling place." It may also derive from the root "svad," which means "to be sweet" or "to taste with sweetness, to enjoy, or to be full of pleasure."

Svadhisthana Chakra - the second secret centre of consciousness is located in the area above sexual organs outside the physical body.

It is one of the 7 essential energy chakras: MULADHARA, SVADHISTHANA, MANIPURA, ANAHATA CHAKRA, VISHUDDHA CHAKRA, AJNA CHAKRA, SAHASRARA, each corresponding to a particular plane of vibration, considered to be energy centres, which exert a certain predominant influence over certain parts, systems, organs and glands of the body.

  • It governs the sexual organs and is related to the triggering of procreative instincts for the perpetuation of the species, sexual urges and erotic sensations, arousal and a focus on sense pleasures.

  • Often referred to as the Sacral Chakra, the Svadhisthana Chakra holds the key to unlocking a reservoir of vitality and unleashing the transformative power of creative expression.

  • While the MULADHARA Chakra is associated with the earth element, the Svadhisthana Chakra is connected to the water element, symbolizing fluidity, adaptability and the emotional currents that shape our experiences.

  • If the energies of the Muladhara Chakra do not provide us with a choice, because everything there is about the struggle for survival, then for the consciousness that is dominated by the particular energies of the Svadhisthana Chakra, the world provides a variety of options and a particular point of view about the world.

  • When one reaches the level of the Svadhisthana Chakra, the apatias that are characterised by the energies of the Muladhara Chakra are transformed into passion and an intense desire to merge with the world through the sensory pleasures that are experienced.

  • We come to the realisation that we are not alone and that there is more to life than simply surviving when we reach the second level of being.

  • The second centre of force's energies show us that the world is a fascinating game of polarities in which we play as one of the two poles, always wanting to unite with the other, presenting various options and perspectives, transforming apathy into passion, and stimulating a desire to engage with the sensory pleasures of the world.

  • This force centre's energies create a flexible worldview that we don't fear (like the first force centre) but want to explore.

  • This energy centre is often represented as a vibrant orange wheel, from the centre of which 6 spokes emanate. Symbolic representation: lotus with six petals, symbolizing the six nadis (channels) that flow from it.

  • Svadhisthana is linked to the water element, signifying fluidity and adaptability in emotional currents.

  • The symbolic shape associated with this centre is the crescent, the corresponding colour being silver white.

  • The function of this subtle centre is to confer the ability to travel consciously in the astral worlds.

  • The tongue and the sense of taste are closely related to the Svadhisthana Chakra. The organ of action being the sex organ.

  • The specific subordinate sense of Svadhisthana chakra is taste.

  • Personality: ‘I feel’ or ‘I desire’

When this energy centre is balanced and activated, one gets inspiration, innovative thinking, creative imagination and the ability to manifest artistic qualities, to bring out one's imaginative potential.
